Maddie headed into the Cafe 80s. She loved this place. It was amazing. Maddie was dressed in a pair of jeans and a white blouse. Her hair was pulled into a ponytail, with some of the shorter strands hanging down against her cheeks. She slid onto one of the red vynl covered booths and waited patiently for the waitress to come and take her order.
The cafe was fairly crowded, but not overly. The waitress came over and Maddie smiled at her and gave her her order. She ordered a cheeseburger, fries and Coke. She looked around.
Some of the high school students had come here often. It was a local hangout that Mads liked to come too. Her parents were often fairly busy and had no time really for her...at least thats what it felt like to her. She sighed and crossed her arms over the table, letting her chin rest ontop of it. Loud 80s music played. Believe it or not, she liked some of the 80s music, depending on the group or the singer. She reached up and tucked a few strands of her dark chocolate brown hair behind her ear. The little bell over the door chimed, signaling someone else had entered the cafe. She had just come from school, and had dropped her stuff off at home. Now it was time to relax and have fun. Maddie patiently waited for the waitress to bring her her lunch.

Marley walked down the almost empty sidewalk, headed towards the Cafe 80s. School today had been, well, brutal, like everyday other day she supposed. She didn't understand where Strickland got off at; she had decent grades and yet all he did was badger her. And call her a slacker. He was constantly demeaning her, and she had a feeling it was all because of her father, because she knew more than anyone, that Strickland did not like him.
She just wanted to get away from the stresses of school for the time being. Which meant, skipping out on her homework for the night, and to just have fun for once. And where else would be a good place to blow off some steam an dhave fun than the Cafe 80s? Marley thought the Cafe was pretty awesome, mostly because her father was an 80s kid, and that was all he ever talked about. All she ever heard about was how 'they had the best movies, culture and music.' Though, she thought that 60s music was a lot more revolutional than 80s 'glam rock'.
Marley was wearing a pair of her brothers Nike high-tops (which she normally stole from him), jeans, and a t-shirt. She wasn't exactly trying to look all that pretty today. Tuesday was her 'I-don't-care-about-what-I-look' day. She pushed the door open, and instantly noticed that her friend Maddie was there. "Hey Maddie!" Marley said, as she sat on the stool beside her.

Maddie looked up at Marlene as she took a seat across from her in the booth. Maddie broke into a genuine smile.
"Hey Marlene how are you? Want me to call the waitress for you?" Maddie offered, preparing to wave the waitress over.
She liked Marlene. She got along well with her. Maddie generally did try and get along with other people, but some were rather difficult to get to know. They were reclusive and withdrawn. She reached up and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear as she beamed at Marlene.
"What brings you into the cafe? " she implied curiously tilting her head to the side. By now some of the crowd had begun leaving, so it was quieter now inside the cafe. Maddie liked Marlene's family too. They were cool. Maddie's own family however, that was another question. She blinked rapidly, forcing those thoughts out of her head. It was time to unwind and have fun and relax...not worry about family and family problems. Maddie offered Marlene one of her fries as she waited patiently for her to respond. Maddie smiled. " So how'd school go today? Did you find it easy in English or hard?" Maddie asked. Maddie loved English. Math however, was not her most strongest subject.[/blockquote]

Marley grinned at her, setting her purse beside her. "Uhm, I'm all right, I guess. And sure," She answered, taking some money out of her bag and sticking it in her jeans front pocket. Marley wasn't exactly all too hungry, so when the waittress waltzed over she only asked for her traditional Pepsi.
"I'm kind of stressed out, with school and all..." She trailed off, looking out the window before continuing. "I'm just trying to distress," Marley explained, with a weak smile. It wasn't all that new to be stressed out about school, this happened to her about every year around this time. "What about you?" She asked, as she took the fry Maddie had offered her.
The waittress returned with her Pepsi, and she eagerly began to drink it. "English was..okay. I mean, it was pretty easy, but you know Mr. Baxter," Marley grinned again, playing with the straw. "He likes to make things seem a lot more difficult than they are." English had been one of her best classes, until this year due to Mr. Baxter.
She tapped her finger along to Take On Me, which happened to be the song that was blaring on the Cafe's stereo system. Marley really enjoyed being with Maddie, because they had a lot in common and it was always easy for them to find something to talk about.

Maddie grinned at Marlene about Mr. Baxter. She nodded in agreement. "Oh yes. I think Mr. Baxter is simply more constipated than what he lets on. I seriously don't think he takes Exlax daily" her lip twitched as she chuckled at that.
She listened to Marlene talk about stress. Maddie sighed in agreement. "I know about the stress. Plus, my parents aren't exactly around much, so that adds to it more" A bit of sadness crept into her voice at that. Take On Me was playing and Maddie began humming along to the song and lyrics.
She realized she was singing along softly to it and quickly snapped out of her stupor. She grinned at Marlene bashfully.
"Sorry this song generally relaxes me. So what about when you graduate? Any ideas?" Maddie asked, changing the subject. Mads' mother was a stickler for getting straight A's and whatnot. But Maddie didnt' care. She did the best she could. Granted she did get a few A's in some of the classes, but she never pushed herself to the point of breaking, like some students did. Marlene wasn't like that either.
Maddie finished her burger and fries and nursed her Coke while she waited for Marlene to respond to her

Marley giggled at Maddie's comment at Mr. Baxter. Mostly because it had been the exact way she felt about him, and it seemed as if it were a logical explanation for his 'jerk-ish' behavior. It honestly should be against the law for teachers to be moody, because it just ruins their reputations and makes the class hard to take seriously. "He honestly needs to get over himself," Marley added, drinking some more of her Pepsi.
She nodded to Maddie at what she had said about stress. Marley knew alll about her family, and how hard it must be for her to focus. "yeah, but ya' know, it's the end of the semester, and that's just normally when the stress really sets in," She smiled at her reassuringly. School was just school, and in order to be succesful, you had to do good in it, whether or not you actually want to.
"Well, my mom wants me to be an account," Marley said, and made a face. Her mother always had to be 'logical' when it came to future descisions and whatnot. Math was definitely Marley's best subject, but she didn't want to be involved with it for the rest of her life. "But my dad wants me to focus on my music, and I think that's what I'm going to try to do." Her father was much more easy to relate too.
"What about you?'

Maddie smiled at Marlene.
"Well, I want to be an EMT" Maddie said brightly beaming at Marlene.
"You should do what your heart tells you to do and not what others want you to do" Maddie said softly smiling at Marlene.
She waited patiently for Marlene to finish her Pepi and Maddie finished her own food. Maddie paid the waitress, treating Marlene to her Pepsi.
She turned to her best friend.
"So what do you wanna do now? It's Friday and we have the rest of the day off" Maddie said cheerfully waiting for Marlene. Maddie remained sitting, watching her BFF.
Maddie's eyes darkened slightly when the bell chimed over the door and a few of the school bullies dribbled in racoucaus and loud. They never picked on her thank God, but they hated the McFly's for some reason. Maddie was sure it stemmed way back in history.
"Don't draw attention to yourself. Once they head toward the back, we can make a break for it" Maddie whispered to Marlene. She knew her father hated being called a chicken, but she didn't want Marlene to get into trouble either. She watched the group warily, waiting to see what would happen

Marley nodded, she had heard about Maddie's dream of being an EMT many times before, but it didn't bother her. Repetition played a huge role in her life. She finished her Pepsi, and sat back in her seat, staring up at the ceiling. Marley felt tired and restless at the same time. Part of her wanted to go do something fun, while the other part just wanted to sit here and do nothing.
She couldn't help but smile at Maddie's comment. It's like she was her psychiatrist at some points, but that wasn't anything close to being a bad thing. Marley felt like she could tell Maddie anything. Well, anything that she felt comfortable sharing. She happened to have a small secret of her own, but wasn't about to share it with just anyone. Marley contemplated telling her friend, but every time she wanted to she just couldn't bring herself to do it.
"So what do you wanna do now? It's Friday and we have the rest of the day off"
"I don't know," Marley sighed, as she lowered her head from it's gaze at the cieling. She was tired, but whatever Maddie wanted to do, she would do it. Marley was not the type to be a party pooper, except when it came to her brother. She noticed how Maddie's cheery face had changed in almost a split second. Sitting up straight, she cocked her head to the side slightly.
"Don't draw attention to yourself. Once they head toward the back, we can make a break for it."
Marley knew exactly why she had said that. She noticed the bullies enter, as loud and belligerent as ever and only rolled her eyes. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind when it came to people like that, they were rude and obnoxious and she couldn't stand them. Well, actually she could, but only when she wanted too. "I'm not afraid of them." Marley said, in all seriousness.
